The week two NFL preseason schedule will conclude on Monday night with a matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New Orleans Saints. The Jaguars are coming off a dismal 1-15 season and hired head coach Urban Meyer to turn things around. Jacksonville selected QB Trevor Lawrence with the number one overall draft pick and the future now seems bright.
On Saturday, Jacksonville failed to score a point during the first three quarters of a 23-13 home loss versus Cleveland. Trevor Lawrence completed 6 of 9 passes for 71 yards and was sacked twice.
For the first time since the 2006 season, the New Orleans Saints will not have Drew Brees as their starting quarterback. Brees’ retirement has left Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill to battle for the quarterback job. Offensive weapons RB Alvin Kamara and WR Michael Thomas will have to play at an elite level for the Saints to match their 12-4 record from a season ago.
In their preseason opener, New Orleans turned the ball over six times during a 17-14 road loss against Baltimore. Quarterbacks Jameis Winston (7-12 96 yds) and Taysom Hill (8-12 81 yds) did little to stake claim to the starting job.
