Houston Texans - 2021 NFL Season Preview & Win Total Predictions

Last Updated: 07/25/2021 at 5:19 PM ET

The Houston Texans are projected to be the worst team in the NFL this season and for good reason. The Texans won just four games a season ago, despite having elite QB Deshaun Watson and DE J.J. Watt on their roster. Watson has requested a trade and is dealing with sexual assault allegations, making him unlikely to play for Houston again. Veteran QB Tyrod Taylor and rookie QB Davis Mills will battle for the starting job.

The Texans have improved on the offensive line and have one of the best left tackles in the game in Laremy Tunsil. Running backs David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay will likely split the load and try to bring life to a running game (91.6 ypg)  that finished second worst in the league.

Not only did Houston struggle to run the football, but they finished last in the league in stopping the run (160.3 ypg). With All-Pro DE J.J. Watt leaving for Arizona, the Texans will have one of the worst defensive lines in all of football. Leading tackler Zach Cunningham (164 tackles) will be very busy once again in 2021.

The Houston secondary will be the strength of the defense and will be bolstered by the acquisition of CB Terrance Mitchell from Cleveland. S Lonnie Johnson finished fourth on the team with 76 tackles.

Houston comes into the season with the lowest projected win total at four. The New York Jets have the next lowest total at six. That tells you all that you need to know about the Texans this season. Final Season Prediction, Houston Texans Under 4 Wins.
