Eagles at Redskins 9/13/20 - NFL Picks, Advanced Odds, & Betting Predictions

On Sunday September 13th, the Philadelphia Eagles will visit FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland for the opening game of the NFL regular season against NFC East rival the Washington Redskins. The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending NFC East champions following a 9-7 record in 2019. In two high scoring games head-to-head against the Redskins, the Eagles were 2-0 with the teams combining for 123 points. Carson Wentz returns as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles but was put on alert after the Eagles drafted Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts in the recent NFL draft.

The Eagles fired their offensive coordinator in January and in February announced they will not have a traditional offensive coordinator instead the job will be split between two coaches while head coach Doug Pederson will continue making the play calls. In late April, the Eagles acquired wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and also during the offseason acquired free agents Jalen Mills, Rodney McLeod,  Javon Hargrave, Hassan Ridgeway, Jatavis Brown, Will Parks and Nickell Robey-Coleman. Several players for the Eagles were lost to free agency including running back Jordan Howard, wide receiver Nelson Agholor, and tight end Richard Rodgers amongst others. In the recently concluded NFL draft the Eagles selected wide receiver Jalen Reagor from TCU and the aforementioned Hurts with their first two picks.

The Washington Redskins will begin the Ron Rivera era in the nation's capital in September as Rivera will start the season as the head coach after previously coaching for the Carolina Panthers. Washington is coming off a disastrous 3-13 season and there are not many high expectations for the Redskins in 2020. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins is expected to return as the starter while the Redskins drafted No. 2 overall and took defensive end Chase Young to shore up their offense.

In February the Redskins exercised their option on veteran running back Adrian Peterson while placing the franchise tag in March on offensive linemen Brandon Scherff and re-signing linebacker Jon Bostic. During the offseason, the Redskins signed free agents Richard Rodgers, Peyton Barber, Cornelius Lucas, Nate Orchard, Kendall Fuller, Wes Schweitzer, Thomas Davis, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Sean Davis, JD Mckissic, and Ronald Darby amongst others. Besides their first pick Chase Young in the draft, the Redskins picked running back Antonio Gibson out of Memphis with their second pick.

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to battle the Dallas Cowboys for the NFC East title and state that battle with a victory in Week 1 over the Washington Redskins. The Eagles have far deeper talent on both sides of the ball, while the Redskins won just three games in 2019 and are not completely satisfied with quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Although the Washington defense will be strong, the offense will have a hard time putting points on the board especially against the Eagles defense. Final score prediction, Philadelphia Eagles win and cover ATS 28-13
