Colts at Jaguars 9/13/20 - NFL Picks, Betting Odds, & ATS Predictions

On Sunday September 13th, the Indianapolis Colts will visit TIAA Bank field in Jacksonville, Florida to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in the opening game of the NFL regular season for both. Indianapolis finished the 2019 regular season with an overall record of 7-9 which was good enough for third place in the AFC South. The big move for Indianapolis during the offseason was the acquisition of former Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, who signed a one-year deal for $25 million in March. T.Y. Hilton will anchor the receiving corps following a season in which he played just 10 games due to an injury, but will be Rivers’ go-to.

Besides the signing of Philip Rivers the Colts added free agents Anthony Castonzo, Sheldon Day, and Xavier Rhodes, in addition to several undrafted free agents following last month's NFL draft. On draft day, the Colts did not pick until the second round and selected wide receiver Michael Pittman from the USC Trojans with the 34th overall pick and 7 picks later with the 41st overall pick the Colts selected running back Jonathan Taylor from the Wisconsin Badgers. It is expected that both Pitman and Taylor will see action early and often in the Colts revamped offense.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were 6-10 in 2019 and finished in last place in the AFC South. Quarterback Gardner Minshew will be the starting quarterback for the Jaguars but Jacksonville has signed free-agent quarterback Mike Glennon to back up Minshew and also drafted quarterback Jake Luton in the 6th round. Leonard Fournette will return as the top running back for the Jaguars. On the sidelines, Jacksonville's biggest change will be at offensive coordinator as the Jaguars named Jay Gruden to that position in late January.

The Jaguars improved their roster by signing free agents Tyler Eifert, Rodney Gunter, linebacker Aaron Lynch, defensive end Cassius Marsh,  offensive tackle Joe Schobert. However the Jaguars lost Nick Foles, Calais Campbell, AJ Bouye, Marqise Lee, Jake Ryan, Cody Davis and Nick O'Leary to free agency. In the NFL draft, the Jaguar took cornerback CJ Henderson from Florida with the 9th pick overall and edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson from LSU with the 20th pick overall.

Not much improvement is expected in Jacksonville for the 2020 NFL season as there are still holes to fill that were left by defensive players exiting via free agency and question marks remain in the receivers corps. In contrast, expectations are high in Indianapolis as the Colts signed quarterback Philip Rivers and grabbed two potential stars in running back Jonathan Taylor and wide receiver Michael Pittman in the draft. Indianapolis will begin its regular season with a road over the Jaguars. Final Score Prediction, Indianapolis Colts win and cover ATS 28-17
