Chiefs at Chargers 9/9/19 - NFL Picks & Predictions

The Chiefs went 2-2 in preseason, but are definitely a team that could start to be reckoned with on the year. However, the Chiefs are really thin when it comes to the defensive backfield which has not really been torched some in the preseason.

Offensively the Chiefs are going to need to get Travis Kelce going in the preseason from his tight end position. However, he could become a target of Mahomes on the season. Last year Kelce was able to get 83 catches for a total of 1038 yards and 8 scores.

Defensively the Chiefs are running a 3-4 on the year. However, they could end up a lot in the nickel with the defensive backfield woes and ease of getting torched. Eric Berry should bounce back in time to start this year, but did not play in any preseaon games. Daniel Sorenson has also battled the injury bug in the preseason which has led to the Chiefs already making some trades to get the defensive backfield shored up. The Chargers are a team that could make a strong show in this game and it could be the spur the Chargers need to help them in getting the showing that could earn them a playoff berth this season. The Chargers are going to need to keep Rivers protected long enough on the season to get the production going for the team.

Rivers last year was the offensive heart of the Chargers and was forced to scramble around quite a bit, which impacted his accuracy. Rivers last year was able to throw for a total of 4515 yards and a total of 28 touchdowns. However, he did throw 10 picks in the game.

Defensively the Chargers are going to play in a 4-3 as the base defense. With the defense the eyes will be on Joey Bosa who played really well at Ohio State and last year for the Chargers showed up well with 70 tackles of which 54 of them were solo, but he manged to pull down 12.5 sacks as well.
