The Buffalo Bills finished second in the AFC East in 2017 with a 9-7 record and finally broke a run of 17 straight seasons without a playoff berth. However, due to a lack of offense they lost 10-3 to Jacksonville in the wildcard round of the playoffs. The team went out and drafted Josh Allen as their quarterback of the future, but the Buffalo faithful must exercise patience while he learns the ropes in the NFL.

The Bills used their six draft picks out of the first 100 in the NFL draft to land a top franchise quarterback in Allen at No. 7 overall after trading up five picks. Buffalo believes that Allen may need more time than the other QBs selected in the draft this year, but are confident of his abilities to lead the team in the near future and for years to come. Bills veteran QB's AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman will in the meantime play quarterback while Allen learns the NFL, and if neither plays well, fans will be calling for Allen to take over.

The Bills do have LeSean McCoy a talented running back who will likely touch the ball early and often. Chris Ivory was picked up to give the Bills a change-of-pace rusher to rest McCoy occasionally. The Bills receiving corps is shaky but if Kelvin Benjamin can overcome frequent injuries he is matchup nightmare at 6-foot-5. Zay Jones was able to catch 27 passes as a Bills rookie, but had problems dropping passes and needs to correct that. Buffalo Tight End's Jordan Matthews and Deonte Thompson were lost to free agency leaving the receiving corps as a big liability to the team.

The Bills offensive line lost Richie Incognito and Eric Wood to retirement and traded away Cordy Glenn. Dion Dawkins will become a starter in his second season, while free agent signing Russell Bodine will take over center after starting four years in Cincinnati.

Buffalo was weakest against the rush last season, but added Star Lotulelei through free agency and Harrison Phillips in the draft. The two tackles will make the line much tougher to run on. The Bills also drafted Tramaine Edmunds a linebacker out of Virginia Tech and he will take Preston Brown’s place.

Buffalo's four starting lineman from last season return with Shaq Lawson and Jerry Hughes at the ends and Adolphous Washington and Kyle Williams at tackles. While Lorenzo Alexander is a team leader at linebacker Edmunds should overshadow his play early and Matt Milano will hold down one of the outside linebacker roles.

The Bills secondary was the strength last season and added Vontae Davis from the Colts. Micha Hyde, Jordan Poyer and Tre’Davious White combined to make 246 tackles last season and intercept 14 passes.

Buffalo’s defense will once again be its heartbeat in 2018, but the offense will be anemic at best hence the 6.5 win odd makers handed the Bills. That figure might be high, if McCarron and Peterman cannot hold down the fort under center until Allen matures into a full time NFL-caliber quarterback. Take the under as Bills go 5-11 in 2018-19.
