Bills at Jets 9/8/19 - NFL Picks & Predictions

AFC East Division rivals will clash on Sunday, when the Buffalo Bills travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets. The Bills enter the 2019 NFL season with the hope of making a significant jump from a 6-10 record a year ago. For Buffalo to make the postseason, second year QB Josh Allen will have to show that he has the ability to be a franchise quarterback. The Bills finished 30th in total offense in Allen’s first season under center and have provided him with more options to grow.

The Buffalo Bills feature one of the most underrated defensive units in football, that kept them in plenty of games in 2018. Houston DT Ed Oliver was selected by Buffalo with the ninth pick of the NFL Draft and will make an immediate impact up front. Second year LB Tremaine Edmunds racked up 121 tackles and will continue to anchor the linebacking corps.

Year two of the Sam Darnold era is set to begin, as the New York Jets look to improve on a 4-12 record in the quarterback’s rookie season. Darnold showed flashes during his first season, throwing for 2,865 yards to go along with 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. The buzz around the New York training camp revolves around free agent signee, Le’veon Bell, who sat out all of last year. Bell is one of the most talented dual threat running backs in the league and will be motivated to prove the Steelers wrong behind what should be an above average offensive line.

For the Jets to reach the postseason, first year head coach Adam Gase will have the most work to do on the defensive side of the ball. New York started their overhaul by drafting DT Quinnen Williams with the number three pick in the NFL Draft to play next to dominant DT Leonard Williams. New York signed LB C.J. Mosley to a five-year, $85 million dollar contract during the offseason to solidify the run defense.

New York CB Trumaine Johnson is dealing with a hamstring injury and his status for this game is uncertain. The Jets have made some notable additions and appear primed to breakthrough. However, New York is known for slow starts and it will take time to gel. Take the Bills and their defense to pull off the upset in week one. Final Score Prediction, Buffalo Bills win outright as underdog but grab the points just in case 23-21.
