Best NFL Thursday Prop Bets – 9/15/2022

Last Updated: 09/13/2022 at 8:45 PM ET

It’s Week 2, and we have a huge matchup between high-powered offenses Kansas City and San Diego at Arrowhead Stadium.

Quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert shined in Week 1, but we are going to look to a tight end and a running back for our best prop bets in this matchup.

NFL Player Props for San Diego at Kansas City 9/15/2022

Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs, OVER 77.5 receiving yards (-115)

Austin Eckler, RB, Chargers, OVER 53.5 rushing yards (-110)

Travis Kelce

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was targeted 11 times and caught seven passes for 104 yards in a Week 3 matchup with San Diego last season. If the Chargers schemed to limit him in the second meeting in Week 15, it sure wasn’t successful. Kelce caught 10 of the 13 passes thrown his way for 191 yards and two touchdowns.

There was talk that the departure of WR Tyreek Hill might hinder Kelce in some way, but that was not evident in Week 1 against Arizona.  He caught all but one of his nine targets     for 121 yards and a score.

The Chargers allowed Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr to complete 22 passes for 295 yards. Four of those receptions were hauled in by TE Darren Waller for 79 yards and a touchdown. Carr-to-Waller is a fine connection, but Patrick Mahomes-to-Kelce is far superior. We think Kelce easily goes for 80-plus against San Diego.

Pick: Travis Kelce OVER 77.5 receiving yards

Austin Eckler

Kansas City allowed 4.7 yards per carry for 103 yards against Arizona in Week 1. The Chiefs ranked second to last in the league a season ago by giving up 4.8 yards per rush, so this defense can be run on.

Dual-threat back Austin Eckler should get plenty of touches in Week 2 after running the ball 14 times for 36 yards and catching four passes for 36 more. Eckler went for 50-plus on the ground in both games against K.C. last season. He had 11 carries for 55 yards in the first meeting and 12 for 59 in the second. In that second game, the Chargers ran the ball 39 times for 192 yards.

Given the Chiefs inability to stop the run last season and again in Week 1, Eckler should have no trouble going over his projected total in Week 2.

Pick: Austin Eckler OVER 53.5 rushing yards (-110)
