Best NFL Sunday Prop Bets – 9/17/2022

We have five recommended player props for you heading into the second Sunday of the NFL season. Included are four OVERs for the day games and an UNDER that may surprise you in Sunday night’s NFC North battle between the Packers and Bears.

In addition to the Sunday-night matchup, there are prop picks for Panthers at Giants and Jets at Browns in the early games as well as Cardinals at Raiders and Texans in the afternoon.

Two more prop picks for the Monday night twin bill will be coming soon, so check back later for that post on our NFL Picks & Predictions page.

NFL Player Props for Sunday Week 2 - 9/17/2022

Christian McCaffery, RB, Panthers, OVER 59.5 rushing yards (-115)

Jacoby Brissett, QB, Browns, OVER 191.5 passing yards (-115)

Darren Waller, TE, Raiders OVER 47.5 receiving yards (-125)

Courtland Sutton, WR, Broncos, OVER 54.5 receiving yards (-145)

Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers, UNDER 246.5 passing yards (-115)

Christian McCaffery

Look for McCaffery to be much more involved in the offense against the Giants after getting just 14 touches in the Panthers’ 28-24 loss in Week 1. McCaffery had only 10 carries for 33 yards in the opener after averaging nearly 18 runs per game in his last healthy season, way back in 2019. The Giants allowed nearly four yards a carry to Tennessee’s Derrick Henry in Week 1, so there should be room to run for the six-year veteran. McCaffery is a threat to break off a big run at any moment and should get 60-plus on the ground in Week 2.

Pick: Christian McCaffery OVER 59.5 rushing yards (-115)

Jacoby Brissett

Brissett did not get off to a good start as QB1 in Cleveland, completing only 18 of his 34 passes for 147 yards, but he came through when needed to set up the game-winning field goal against Carolina. Brissett did throw a touchdown and was not intercepted, but he’s a better player than he showed for most of the game. He averaged 217 yards in his five starts for Miami a year ago, completing 63% of his passes. Against the Jets in Week 2, expect him to connect on closer to 60% than the 53% he did in Week 1 and get 200-plus passing yards.

Pick: Jacoby Brissett OVER 191.5 passing yards (-115)

Darren Waller

Waller had four receptions for 79 yards in Week 1 against the Chargers, and now he gets to face an Arizona defensive unit that gave up eight catches and 121 yards to Kansas City TE Travis Kelce in the opener. Waller was targeted six times in against Los Angeles, tying with Hunter Renfrow for second most on the team behind Davante Adams’ 17.  Waller’s 2021 was an up-and-down season that also saw him miss six games because of injury. Against the Chargers, he looked a lot more like the consistent performer he was 2019 and 2020. Look for him to easily get 50-plus receiving yards in Week 2.

Pick: Darren Waller OVER 47.5 receiving yards

Courtland Sutton

Sutton’s first target with Russell Wilson under center came with just 48 seconds left in the first half. It was a long one though, as he hauled in a 30-yarder down to the Seattle 24-yard line. Wilson looked for Sutton again on the next play but threw incomplete, and a few plays later Denver settled for a 40-yard field goal. Sutton caught three of five targets in the second half and finished with 72 yards. Running back Javonte Williams led the team with 11 catches and 12 targets, many dump offs when Wilson had nowhere else to throw, while Sutton and fellow wideout Jerry Jeudy had seven targets each. Up next is a Houston team that allowed Indianapolis’ Matt Ryan to throw for 352 yards, so we expect the Broncos receivers to be well fed as “Russ Cooks” the Texans in his Mile High debut. Over 60 yards receiving is where we see Sutton finishing on Sunday.

Pick: Courtland Sutton OVER 54.5 receiving yards

Aaron Rodgers

The Bears won’t have the benefit of a downpour to slow the Packers offense Sunday, but 246.5 passing yards from Aaron Rodgers is a bit overly optimistic after the dud Green Bay turned in against the Vikings in Week 1. Rodgers completed 22 of 34 passes for just 195 yards in the 23-7 loss. He was picked off once and did not throw a touchdown. While Rodgers has “owned” the Bears with 22 wins in 27 games, his 242.6 passing yards a game vs. Chicago is hardly eye-popping. Prior to the second meeting last season in which he erupted for 341 yards, Rodgers had not surpassed 240 yards in five straight games against the Bears. With a dinged-up offensive line and unproven/unfamiliar receivers, Green Bay could rely heavily on the backfield duo of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon this week. Chicago gave up 4.75 yards a run to the 49ers in Week 1, so we expect to see a lot of the Packers ground game.

Pick: Aaron Rodgers UNDER 246.5 passing yards
