Atlanta Falcons - 2021 NFL Season Preview & Win Total Predictions

Last Updated: 07/15/2021 at 12:08 AM ET

The Atlanta Falcons are a few years away from blowing a 28-3 lead during a Super Bowl LI loss against New England and should have blown up their roster shortly thereafter. As Atlanta enters the 2021 season, they are left without All-Pro WR Julio Jones, who was traded to Tennessee, and are stuck with aging QB Matt Ryan. The Falcons hope that WR Calvin Ridley (1,374 yds) and rookie TE Kyle Pitts can fill the void left by Julio Jones in the passing game.

Atlanta ranked 6th worst in rushing offense (95.8 ypg) last season and have failed to upgrade their below average offensive line. RB Mike Davis (642 yds) comes over from Carolina and will likely be the starter.

The Falcons must improve on a defense that ranked fourth worst in yards allowed and surrendered 25.9 ppg in 2020. DT Grady Jarrett anchors the defensive line, but Atlanta has failed to generate much pressure off the edge.

With an inability to generate pressure, Atlanta figures to struggle once again in the secondary. The linebacking corps, led by Deion Jones, will once again be the strength of the unit.

Atlanta changed head coaches in the offseason, agreeing with former Tennessee offensive coordinator Arthur Jones to turn things around. The Falcons have shown that they can score points when they are behind, but an aging Matt Ryan is not the answer to return the team to the playoffs. Final Season Prediction, Atlanta Falcons Under 7.5 Wins.
