The Washington Redskins pick No. 2 overall in the NFL draft on April 23rd after finishing the 2019 regular season with an overall record of 3-13. Washington was well down the pack in several statistical categories finishing 27th in defensive efficiency and 32nd, or dead last, in offensive efficiency. Special teams was the only bright spot for the Redskins as Washington finished fourth in special teams efficiency. Help is needed on both sides of the line scrimmage in Washington.
Most NFL mock drafts have the Washington Redskins choosing Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young with the No. 2 overall pick. Young is considered by many to be the best overall athlete in the draft. The Redskins have liked Young for quite some time, as the pass rusher has been receiving comparisons to players such as Khalil Mack, Von Miller and Julius Peppers.
Young finished the 2019 season for the Ohio State Buckeyes with 16.5 quarterback sacks and 21 tackles for a loss in just 12 games.During his career at Ohio State Young accumulated 30.5 sacks and is expected to make an impact on the Washington defense immediately. Young has been given the title of a generational pass-rusher and could easily make the Redskins defensive line the best in the NFL. Washington is expected to change his defense to a 4-3 after playing a 3-4 last season, with Young, Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen and Montez Sweat making up the front four.
Although Young is likely to be the first pick by the Redskins and the No. 2 pick overall, Washington could possibly decide to trade down to pick up additional selections in the draft. One of the reasons for this could be the lack of confidence the coaching staff may have on quarterback Dwayne Haskins and by trading down the Redskins could still pick up a top quarterback in the draft such as Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert or Jordan Love.
However, when the draft takes place on April 23rd, the Washington Redskins will select Chase Young with the No. 2 overall pick. Young is considered the best overall athlete in the NFL draft and will make a huge impact on the defense of the Redskins and could make Washington's front for one of the most feared in football. Although the Redskins have many other holes to fill on the roster, Young is the best choice and will produce benefits far quicker than any other selection Washington could make.
