Defensive tackles are the heart of the run defense for any football team and play a big role in against the pass. Derrick Brown, who played college football with the Auburn Tigers, is expected to be chosen in one of the first 10 spots in the entire NFL draft. Brown ran a 5.16 40-yard dash at the NFL combine and showed strong athleticism for a tackle who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 326 lbs. In 2019, Brown made 55 tackles, four sacks, four deflected passes and two forced fumbles.

Former Texas A&M defensive tackle Justin Madubuike is expected to be drafted in the first or second round. The 6-foot-3 293-pound Madubuike ran a 4.83 40-yard dash at the combine. The junior with the Aggies decided to skip his final season and enter the draft. In 2019, Madubuike made 45 tackles of which 11.5 were behind the line of scrimmage, while adding 5.5 quarterback sacks.

Javon Kinlaw played his college football with the South Carolina Gamecocks. The 6-foot-5 315-pound defensive tackle ran a 5.10 40-yard dash at the combine. During the regular season in 2019, Kinlaw made 35 tackles, six quarterback sacks and a pair deflected passes. At the Senior Bowl practices, Kinlaw was the best player and dominated during that contest, which helped his draft position.

Marlon Davidson played alongside Derrick Brown with the Auburn Tigers. The 6-foot-3 303-pound Davidson ran a 5.04 40-yard dash at the combine and is expected to be drafted between the first and third rounds. In 2019, Davidson made 49 tackles and 7.5 quarterback sacks while forcing two fumbles. Oftentimes Davidson played in the shadow of Brown, as Auburn had two of the top five defensive tackles in the nation.

Ross Blacklock played his college football with the TCU Horned Frogs. The 6-foot-4 290-pound defensive tackle ran a 4.90 40-yard dash at the combine. During 2019, Blacklock made 40 tackles and 3.5 quarterback sacks. Blacklock sat out 2018 due to injury but 2017 impressed as well with 27 tackles and two quarterback sacks. The talented Blacklock is expected to be selected during the first and third rounds of the draft.

Although Derrick Brown is considered the consensus pick as the top defensive tackle in the draft, I like Javon Kinlaw out of South Carolina. Kinlaw's size at 6-foot-5 will allow him to be a disruptive force on the line of scrimmage against any passing game. Kinlaw has been projected to be drafted in the top 20 and depending on NFL teams’ needs will be selected before Brown.
