2020 NFC East Preview - Odds, Picks & Betting Predictions

When the NFL regular season begins in early September, the NFC East is expected to be a race between the defending division champion Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. Oddsmakers following the NFL draft in late April have tagged the Cowboys as the -105 favorites to win the division

The biggest offseason move Dallas made was firing Jason Garrett as head coach and hiring Mike McCarthy to replace him. McCarthy is expected to help Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott progress further, but Prescott has not yet signed his franchise tag tender. The Cowboys also signed veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, who will likely backup Prescott this season. If for some reason Prescott holds out like Le’Veon Bell did for an entire season, Dallas still has plenty of firepower with running back Ezekiel Elliott and wide receiver Amari Cooper. Dallas also drafted wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with its first pick in the draft and will be a powerhouse on that side of the ball.

Philadelphia at +140 is a close second to Dallas on the NFC East futures board. Running back Jordan Howard is no longer with the Eagles but Miles Sanders is more than capable of replacing Howard. Starting quarterback Carson Wentz returns and will feel some pressure from Eagles draft pick Jalen Hurts. The Eagles also lost wide receiver Nelson Agholor, but Philadelphia drafted Jalen Reagor who is expected to fill the void left by Agholor. The Eagles have an exceptional defense but the offense will find it hard to put points up on the board against the better teams in the conference and league.

The New York Giants have the third best odds of winning the NFC at +900, but will need the ball to bounce their way more than once and have luck on their side often. Saquon Barkley will continue to be the focal point on offense at running back, while Daniel Jones will begin his second season under center for the Giants. The Giants drafted offensive tackle Andrew Thomas to open holes for Berkeley to run through and protect Jones' blind side while in the pocket. In addition, the Giants shored up their weak defense by drafting safety Xavier McKinney out of Alabama as well as linebackers and cornerbacks.

The longshot to win the NFC East title is the Washington Redskins at +1300. Washington picked No. 2 overall in the NFL draft and chose defensive end Chase Young out of Ohio State. Young is expected to be an immediate impact player on the Redskins defense and Washington is expected to be quite strong on that side of the ball. Ron Rivera is the new head coach for the Redskins and has brought over quarterback Kyle Allen from Carolina who should give some competition under center to starter Dwayne Haskins. However, the Redskins are still very young with the offense the weak link and that will be the team’s downfall in 2020.

The NFC East will come down to a battle between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. Although, it is very important for the Cowboys to come to terms with Dak Prescott another quarterback such as Andy Dalton would fit in fine having weapons such as Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and the just drafted CeeDee Lamb. Dallas will win the NFC East with an overall record of 12-4 and division record of 4-2.
