The Connecticut Sun (7-2) leaders in the Eastern Conference will be playing the second half of a back-to-back on the road when they visit the Phoenix Mercury (8-3) on Saturday.
The Sun rallied from a deficit of 30 points against the Washington Mystics, but eventually lost 95-91. Connecticut trailed in the second quarter 57-27 before rallying by outscoring Washington 30-8 in the third quarter but the Mystics held on in the end.
Phoenix has won six straight after defeating the Dallas Wings 75-72 on Tuesday. Diana Taurasi led the Mercury in the win with 21 points while Brittney Griner scored 18 points but fouled out late in the game. This is the first meeting of the season between two of the top teams in the WNBA.
Courtney Williams leads Connecticut in scoring and is third in rebounding averaging 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds. Chiney Ogwumike is the third leading scorer and second leading rebounder with averages of 13.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The leading rebounder is Alyssa Thomas with an average of 9.9 per game. Jasmine Thomas is the second leading scorer and leads in assists with averages of 13.9 points and 5.1 assists per game. Connecticut is scoring an average of 92.4 points per game.
Brittney Griner leads the Mercury in scoring and rebounding with averages of 20.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Diana Taurasi is the second leading scorer and leading rebounder with averages of 19.5 points and 4.4 assists per game. DeWanna Bonner is the only other player on the Mercury averaging double figures in scoring with an average of 15.9 points per game. Phoenix is scoring an average of 82.5 points per game.
