Storm at Mercury 8/31/18 - WNBA Picks & Predictions

The Seattle Storm head to the desert southwest on Friday to play Game 3 of the WNBA Semifinals best of five series against the Phoenix Mercury. The Storm leads the series 2-0 and could eliminate the Mercury with a win on Friday. The Storm went up 2-0 in the series with a 91-87 overtime on Tuesday over the Mercury. Breanna Stewart led the Storm with 27 points.

Phoenix rallied from a 17-point deficit to send Game 2 to overtime, but came up on the short end as the Storm hit free throws down the stretch. In the loss, Brittney Griner scored 23 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Mercury before she fouled out during overtime. DeWanna Bonner who posted double-doubles in three straight playoff games came up just short with 21 points and nine boards. After two games of the playoffs, Breanna Stewart leads the Storm in scoring averaging 27.5 points. Jewell Loyd is the second leading scorer averaging 18.0 points per game. Crystal Langhorne leads the team in rebounds with an average of 7.0 per game. Sue Bird leads Seattle in assists with an average of 8.0 per game. Seattle scored an average of 87.3 points per game during the regular season

During the playoffs, Diana Taurasi leads the Mercury in scoring and assists with averages of 26.5 points and 7.8 assists per game. DeWanna Bonner is the second leading scorer and leader in rebounds with averages of 25.0 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. Phoenix is scoring an average of 85.5 points per game.

Phoenix has its proverbial back to the wall in its first elimination game. Win and play Game 4 or lose and go home. The Mercury has a strong veteran contingent led by Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner and will come out and extend this series for at least one more game.
