The Los Angeles Sparks visit the desert southwest on Friday to play the Phoenix Mercury in a Western Conference matchup. The Sparks defeated the Minnesota Lynx 89-85 on Saturday to improve to 3-2. Riquna Williams led the Sparks with 25 points, while Chelsea Gray chipped in with 21. The Sparks are tied for first in the Western Conference with Seattle and Minnesota.

Phoenix is just one game back in the West at 2-3 after falling to the Chicago Sky on Tuesday 82-75. The Mercury trailed by just two points at the half, but were outscored during the third quarter 24-14 and although Phoenix rallied in the fourth to cut the lead to five, the Mercury fell short. DeWanna Bonner led Phoenix in the loss with 28 points and 12 boards, while Brittney Griner chipped in with 16 points.
Maria Vadeeva leads the Sparks in scoring with an average of 24.0 points per game, but is with the Russian National team. Nneka Ogwumike is the leader in rebounds with an average 10.8 per game. Chelsea Gray is the second leading scorer and leader in assists with averages of 15.6 points and 4.4 assists per game.

DeWanna Bonner leads the Mercury in scoring and in rebounding with averages of 24.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Brittney Griner is second in scoring and second in rebounding with averages of 16.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Leilani Turner and Bonner are tied for the lead in assists with averages of 4.0 per game.

Both teams have not yet found their rhythm in the early going with Los Angeles at just 3-2 and Phoenix 2-3. The Mercury looked strong in a 94-87 win over Indiana, but lacked outside shooting in an 82-75 loss to Chicago. Los Angeles is playing without top scorer Candace Parker, but the Ogwumike sisters and Chelsea Gray are proving to be a tough threesome. Final Score Prediction, Los Angeles Sparks win and cover ATS 84-80.
