The Thursday NBA preseason schedule will tip-off with a matchup between the Miami Heat and the Atlanta Hawks from State Farm Arena. The Heat (40-32) experienced an NBA Finals hangover last season and were eliminated by Milwaukee in the first round of the playoffs. Jimmy Butler led Miami with 21.5 points to go along with 7.1 assists and 6.9 rebounds.

On Monday, Miami improved to 4-0 this preseason with a tightly contested 104-103 home victory versus Charlotte. Miami C Bam Adebayo tallied a team-high 18 points and five rebounds.

The Atlanta Hawks blossomed under the leadership of head coach Nate McMillan and advanced to the Eastern Conference Championship. The Hawks won 27 of their final 38 regular season games once McMillan took over for Lloyd Pierce and were greatly improved on defense. Trae Young led Atlanta in scoring (25.3 ppg) and assists (9.4 apg).

On Saturday, Atlanta was able to make the plays down the stretch of a 91-87 road victory against Memphis. John Collins and Bogdan Bogdanovic led Atlanta with 16 points on a combined 12-for-26 from the field.

Atlanta C Clint Capela (Achilles) has not played this preseason and is questionable for the season opener. The Heat are cruising through the preseason and the Hawks have not seemed too interested. Take Miami to win and cover. Final Score Prediction, Miami Heat win 113-105.
