On Friday, the Phoenix Mercury (2-3) will visit the Minnesota Lynx (2-3) in a WNBA Western Conference showdown.
Phoenix is coming off its third straight loss after falling to the Washington Mystics 103-95 on Wednesday night. Brittney Griner led the Mercury in the loss with 27 points hitting 13 of her 16 field goals, while DeWanna Bonner chipped in with 25. Early foul trouble by Diana Taursasi limited her effectiveness and she scored just nine points.
Minnesota has lost two straight, including Tuesday night’s 76-74 loss to the Atlanta Dream. The Lynx squandered a late seven-point lead as they were outscored 13-4 down the stretch in the loss. Maya Moore led the Lynx in the loss with 18 points.
Brittney Griner leads the Mercury in scoring and is second in rebounding with average of 20.8 points and 6.0 rebound per game. The third leading scorer and leading rebounder is DeWanna Bonner averaging 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Briann January leads the team in assists averaging 4.0 per game. Griner is shooting 57.1% from the field hitting 40 of her 70 field goal attempts.
Sylvia Fowles leads the Lynx in scoring and rebounding with averages of 16.6 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. Maya Moore is the second leading scorer and third leading rebounder with averages of 15.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. The assists leader is Lindsay Whalen averaging 4.8 per game. Fowles is shooting 62.7% from the field hitting 32 of her 51 field goal attempts.
