On Tuesday, the Phoenix Mercury (4-3) visit the Big Apple to play the New York Liberty (2-2) in a WNBA midday showdown.
The Mercury won its second straight game on Sunday downing the Atlanta Dream 78-71 as DeWanna Bonner and Diana Taurasi each scored 20 points. The two combined to score Phoenix’s last 20 points of the game. Phoenix is in third place in the West one game behind first place Los Angeles Sparks.
The Liberty has also won two straight after beating the Indiana Fever 87-81 in overtime on Saturday. Kia Nurse led the Liberty with 34 points while Tina Charles chipped in with 23 while pulling down 10 boards. New York is in fourth place in the East 2 ½ games behind first place Connecticut.
Brittney Griner leads the Mercury in scoring and rebounding with average of 20.3 points and 6.6 rebounds. Diana Taurasi is second in scoring and second in assists with average of 18.5 points and 3.9 assists per game. Briann January leads the team in assists averaging 4.1 per game. Griner is shooting 56% from the field hitting 56 of her 100 field goal attempts.
Tina Charles leads the Liberty in scoring and rebounding with averages of 23.5 points and 9.0 rebounds. Kia Nurse is the second leading scorer with an average of 19.0 points per game. Bria Hartley is leading the team in assists with an average of 4.8 per game. Charles is shooting 46.9% from the field hitting 38 of her 81 field goal attempts.
