The Phoenix Mercury continues their East Coast road trip on Thursday when they visit the Atlanta Dream. The Mercury defeated the New York Liberty on Tuesday 95-82 and inched closer to clinching a playoff spot. Brittney Griner led the Mercury with 29 points and 14 boards, while Leilani Mitchell scored 29 as well.

Atlanta won its second straight after defeating the Dallas Wings on Sunday 77-73. It was the first time this season Atlanta has won back-to-back games on the road. Tiffany Hayes led the Dream in the win with 23 points. The Dream had to make a big stand late to hold off the hard charging Wings in a hard-earned road victory.

Brittney Griner is the leading scorer and second in rebounding for Phoenix with averages of 20.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. DeWanna Bonner is second in scoring and leading in rebounding with averages of 18.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Leilani Mitchell leads in assists with an average of 4.2 per game.

Tiffany Hayes leads the Dream in scoring with an average of 14.9 points per game. Jessica Breland is leading in rebounding with an average of 7.2 rebounds per game. Hayes leads the Dream in assists with an average of 2.9 per game. Brittney Sykes is the only other Dream player averaging double figures in scoring with an average of 10.7 points per game.

 

 

 

Phoenix is battling to earn a playoff spot while Atlanta is playing for respect and next season. Nonetheless, the Dream has not given up evidenced by two consecutive victories straight up.
