The Los Angeles Lakers will restart their 2019-20 regular season as the number one team in the Western Conference with an overall record of 49-14. The Lakers were 23-8 at home and 26-6 on the road prior to the more than four months layoff due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Lakers hold a comfortable 5 ½ -game lead over the second-place Los Angeles Clippers in both the Pacific Division and Western Conference standings.

Through 63 games of the regular season, Anthony Davis is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Los Angeles Lakers with averages of 26.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. LeBron James is the second leading scorer, second leading rebounder and the team leader in assists with averages of 25.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 10.6 assists per game. James’ average of 10.6 assist is the highest of his NBA career. Kyle Kuzma is the only other Lakers player averaging double figures in scoring with an average of 12.5 per game.

For many NBA pundits the Lakers are the team to beat when the season restarts on July 31. The Lakers combination of James and Davis has paid off from the start and the two are averaging 52.4 points, 17.3 rebounds and 13.7 assists per game and are arguably the best duo in the NBA. The pair has helped the Lakers open up a 5 ½ -game lead in the Western Conference and trail just the Milwaukee Bucks for the second best record overall in the NBA.

The Lakers only worry heading into the restart is depth as the team relies so much on the duo of James and Davis that if either one of the two were to go down with an injury and miss an extended period Los Angeles could face problems in the postseason. The Lakers will be facing tougher competition at the restart as 13 of the 22 teams returning are from the West. Besides James and Davis, Kyle Kuzma is the only other player averaging double figures in scoring for the Lakers and if an opponent can find a way to keep James and Davis from scoring their averages, the Lakers could be defeated in a five- or seven-game series.

Los Angeles returns to finish the regular season as the best team in the Western Conference and the second best overall in the NBA. The acquisition of Anthony Davis during the off-season paid off immediately for Los Angeles and the duo of Davis and LeBron James has become the best one-two punch in the NBA. Los Angeles will continue its winning ways at the restart of the regular season and into the postseason.  The Lakers will win the Western Conference and face the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA finals.
