On Saturday, the New York Liberty (1-2) visit the Indiana Fever (0-5) in an Eastern Conference WNBA showdown.
New York is coming off a 94-89 win at home over the Dallas Wings on Tuesday. Tina Charles led the Liberty with 34 points and hauled down 10 rebounds. Shavonte Zellous scored 19 points and handed out nine assists for the Liberty.
Indiana continued with its poor start losing its fifth straight to open the season last Saturday 86-77 to the Connecticut Sun. The Fever trailed by nine at the half but were outscored by 10 during the third quarter and could not overcome a 19-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever in the loss with 18 points.
Tina Charles leads the Liberty in scoring and rebounding with averages of 23.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Kia Nurse (14.0 ppg) is the only other member of the Liberty averaging double figures in scoring. Bria Hartley is leading the team in assists with an average of 5.0 per game. Charles is shooting 49.2% from the field hitting 29 of her 59 field goal attempts.
Kelsey Mitchell leads the Fever in scoring averaging 16.8 points per game average. The second leading scorer and leading rebounder is Candice Dupree with averages of 13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Erica Wheeler leads the team in assists with an average of 4.4 per game. Dupree is shooting 53.6% from the field hitting 30 of her 56 field goal attempts.
