The Wednesday MLB schedule will get underway with a battle between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers from Comerica Park. Last night, six New York home runs were not enough during a 12-11 road loss against Detroit. Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius each went deep twice for the Yankees, who are 44 games above .500 overall.

Veteran southpaw C.C. Sabathia (5-8 4.93 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees in this matchup. New York has lost each of Sabathia’s last five starts and he has given up 18 runs over his last 18 plus innings.

The Detroit Tigers have been dismal for much of this season and have not given their fans much to cheer about. On Tuesday, Detroit SS Jordy Mercer sent the fans home happy by delivering a walk-off single that scored Willi Castro. Jeimer Candelario collected three hits and drove in three runs for the Tigers, who won for just the 19th time at home.

The Tigers will counter with talented left-hander Matthew Boyd (8-10 4.57 ERA) on Wednesday. Boyd has won consecutive starts and has allowed eight runs over his last 12 plus innings of work.
