The Monday MLB schedule will get underway with the first game of a doubleheader between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers from Comerica Park. The Yankees were rained out on Sunday and won their two games in Baltimore by a 12-6 combined score. New York has won four straight games and is 20 games above .500 overall.
Twenty-four year old righty Luis Severino (8-1 2.31 ERA) has emerged as a dominant starter in the New York rotation. The Yankees have won each of Severino’s last nine starts and he has allowed just 13 runs over that stretch.
Despite being a team that entered the season in rebuilding mode, the Detroit Tigers have battled to stay competitive in the AL Central Division race. On Sunday, the Tigers saw their four-game winning streak snapped during an 8-4 home loss versus Toronto. SP Michael Fulmer (2-5) allowed four runs over six frames and took the loss.
Twenty-seven year old righty Drew VerHagen (0-1 6.30 ERA) will make his first start of the season for the Tigers. Control has been an issue for VerHagen, who has allowed seven walks in ten innings of work.
