Yankees at Phillies 7/28/20 - MLB Picks & Predictions

An interleague battle will take place on Tuesday night, when the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies meet at Citizens Bank Park. On Sunday, New York SS Gleyber Torres homered and drove in the winning run with an eighth inning double during a 3-2 victory at Washington. 1B Luke Voit tied things up with a solo shot in the seventh inning for the Yankees.

Veteran southpaw J.A. Happ (12-8 4.91 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees in this matchup. Last season, Happ surrendered 34 home runs and struck out 140 batters while logging 160 plus innings.

The Philadelphia Phillies were unable to host the Yankees on Monday, as their players were awaiting COVID-19 testing results. On Sunday, Philadelphia’s pitching staff served up four home runs during an 11-6 loss versus Miami. OF Bryce Harper homered and drove in three runs for the Phillies, who dropped two out of three in the series.

Philadelphia manager Joe Girardi will turn to right-hander Jake Arrieta (8-8 4.64 ERA) in the series opener. The thirty-four year old Arrieta allowed a .283 opponents’ batting average and 21 long balls a season ago.

New York SP Masahiro Tanaka (concussion) threw a simulated game on Sunday without issue and could return to the rotation this weekend. Last season, New York ranked 3rd in OPS and 1st in runs scored. Philadelphia counters with an offense that ranked 17th in OPS and 14th in runs scored in 2019. Take the Yankees to power their way to victory. Final Score Prediction, New York Yankees win 7-3.
