Wednesday Night Baseball on ESPN will feature the next installment of the Subway Series between the New York Yankees and New York Mets. The Yankees scored 29 runs during a two-game sweep of the Red Sox in London, but were unable to keep the momentum going during last night’s 4-2 loss at Citi Field. Didi Gregorius had two hits and scored a run for the Yankees, who lead Tampa Bay by 5.5 games for first place in the AL East.

Twenty-six year old righty Domingo German (9-2 3.86 ERA) will come off the injured list from a left hip flexor strain to start for the Yankees. Through 70 innings, German has struck out 77 batters and owns a solid 1.11 WHIP.

The New York Mets have suffered some heartbreaking losses thanks to an ineffective bullpen and are trying to stay in contention for a wild card spot. On Tuesday, Michael Conforto provided a tie-breaking two run double in the eighth inning to give the Mets a much needed lift. J.D. Davis homered and tied the game with a double for the Mets, who are eight games below .500 overall.

Thirty-six year old southpaw Jason Vargas (3-3 3.66 ERA) will head to the hill for the Mets in this contest. Vargas is winless in his last three starts and has given up six runs over his last 15 innings of work.

New York OF Giancarlo Stanton has been diagnosed with a PCL strain and will likely miss all of July. Through 83 games, the Yankees rank 4th in OPS and 1st in runs scored. For the season, the Mets rank 15th in OPS and 17th in runs scored. Take the over on Wednesday, Final Score Prediction, New York Yankees win 7-5.
