The Detroit Tigers have lost 29 of their first 51 games, but are just three games behind Cleveland for the AL Central Division lead. On Saturday, SP Francisco Liriano (3-2) struck out eight batters and allowed five runs across five frames. Jeimer Candelario hit two home runs and drove in three runs for the Tigers in a losing effort.
Thirty-one year old journeyman Blaine Hardy (0-0 3.46 ERA) will make the third start of his major league career. Through 13 innings this season, Hardy has struck out 11 batters and owns a 1.46 WHIP.
