The Sunday MLB schedule will get underway with a matchup between the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox from Fenway Park. The White Sox shut out the Red Sox on Friday night and lost on Saturday by a 4-2 final score. Jose Abreu doubled in a run for Chicago, who committed three errors on the afternoon and fell to 20 games below .500 overall.
Talented twenty-four year old righty Reynaldo Lopez (1-4 3.42 ERA) will get the nod for the White Sox. In his last start, Lopez allowed just one hit over seven scoreless frames during a 4-2 loss at Minnesota.
Boston slugger J.D. Martinez missed Friday night’s game with back tightness and returned Saturday to blast his major league leading 21st home run. Martinez’s two-run shot in the fifth inning put the Red Sox ahead for good. SP David Price (7-4) struck out six batters over six innings for Boston, who is in a virtual tie with New York for the AL East Division lead.
2016 Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello (8-2 3.59 ERA) will pitch for the Red Sox on Sunday. Porcello has won consecutive starts and has allowed four runs over his last 13 innings of work.
