Washington Nationals at Pittsburgh Pirates 4/17/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

PNC Park will play host to a Sunday afternoon clash between the Washington Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Nationals (4-5) are a game above .500 on the road and will have issues this season with a below average bullpen. Last night, Washington OF Juan Soto homered and reached base four times during a 6-4 road loss against Pittsburgh.

Thirty-two year old left-hander Patrick Corbin (0-2 10.80 ERA) has failed to live up to his massive contract with the Nationals. Last time out, Corbin was tagged for six runs and recorded just eight outs during a 16-4 road loss against Atlanta.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are a game above .500 at home and are trying to find a way out of their customary last place position in the NL Central Division. During yesterday's home victory, 1B Michael Chavis put Pittsburgh ahead to stay with a fifth inning RBI single. 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes contributed two hits and scored a run out of the leadoff spot for the Pirates.

The Pirates will give the nod to thirty-three year old southpaw Jose Quintana (0-1 1.69 ERA) in the series finale. In his first start, Quintana gave up five hits and one run during a 2-1 home loss versus Chicago.

Washington SP Stephen Strasburg (shoulder) is currently on the 10-day injured list and hopes to return next month. In 2021, Washington ranked 9th in OPS and 16th in runs scored. Last season, Pittsburgh ranked 28th in OPS and 30th in runs scored. Take the Pirates to win at home. Final Score Prediction, Pittsburgh Pirates win 6-3.
