Washington Nationals at New York Mets 10/5/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Washington Nationals are on the road Wednesday to play the final game of the regular season versus the New York Mets. Washington is 55-104 and the first game of a three-game series against New York was postponed due to rain on Monday. The Nationals and Mets will make that game up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday. Washington is last in the National League East and has the worst overall record in baseball.

Second baseman Cesar Hernandez is batting .248 to lead Washington and has a team-high 136 hits. Left fielder Lane Thomas is the leader in home runs with 17, while designated hitter Nelson Cruz is the leader in RBIs with 64 and on-base percentage at .313. On Wednesday, Washington will send Erick Fedde to the mound. The right-hander is 6-12 with a 5.27 ERA, 93 Ks and 56 BBs.

New York is 98-61 and is second in the National League East, trailing the first place Atlanta Braves by 1 ½ games. The Mets have three games remaining following their rain out on Monday, while Atlanta has just two. New York has lost three straight and four of the last five. If New York does not win the division title the Mets will have the No. 1 wildcard spot in the NL.

Second baseman Jeff McNeil is batting .326 to lead New York and has team highs in hits with 171 and on-base percentage at .381. First baseman Pete Alonso is the leader in home runs with 40 and RBIs with 131. New York has not announced its starting pitcher for the final game of the regular season on Wednesday at home against the Washington Nationals.

New York has struggled over the last week as the Mets have lost four of the last five and when facing a right-handed starting pitcher New York has lost each of its  last four. Washington starting pitcher Erick Fedde pitched well on September 4 versus the Mets, allowing one run on four hits across six innings resulting in the Nationals defeating the Mets 7-1. Final Score Prediction, Washington Nationals win 5-3.
