Twins at Royals 8/8/20 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Minnesota Twins travel on the road to Kauffman Stadium to take on the Kansas City Royals. The Twins have been a force this season, winning six games in a row before having their losing streak snapped with a 6-5 loss to the Pirates. The loss dropped the Twins record on the season to 10-3. The Royals have not shared that same success although last time out they decimated the Cubs with a 13-2 victory, they had lost six games in a row coming into that game.

The Twins boast one of the best offenses in all of baseball batting .236 on the season which ranks 13th but rank 5th in runs per game averaging 5.2 per game on the year. Nelson Cruz has been dominant this year batting .373 hitting 3 home runs and driving in a team-high 15 RBIs on the year.

Taking the mound for the Twins will be Jake Odorizzi, making his first start of the year. Ordizzi was excellent last year making 30 starts posting a 15-7 record and a 3.51 ERA, he strikes out 3.4 batters per every walk and opponents have hit just .236 against him in his 7 year stint in the MLB.

The Royals come in batting .251 as a team, the 8th best in the MLB, and with a 13 run explosion against the Cubs raised their season average to 4.14 runs per game. Second baseman Whit Merrifield was huge in that win over the Cubs, hitting a two-run home run and scoring 3 times. Merrifield leads the Royals in batting average (.298), home runs (4) and RBIs (11).

Taking the hill for the Royals is Danny Duffy who is 0-2 with a 4.11 ERA this season. Duffy has made three starts going 15.1 total innings while striking out 16 and walking five. Throughout his career, Duffy has been a cornerstone in this Royals lineup, starting over 20 games for the last six years posting a career ERA of 3.98.

The Twins are just too deep and powerful of a lineup for the outmatched Royals, especially in a game where the advantage on the mound is small. These pitchers are both evenly matched with a potentially small advantage going to the Twins, but the Royals offense will be hard-pressed to put up similar numbers as they did in the series finale against the Cubs. The Twins continue their red-hot start to the season behind one of the best offenses in baseball. Final score prediction, Minnesota Twins win 7-4.
