The catching position is one of the most important in baseball. It helps to tell the pitcher what to throw, but also has a chance to throw out the runner if needed. Look for these catchers here to make a difference in the year as these are what I view as the top 5 catchers in the majors this year.
J.T. Realmuto is one player that does not really get the recognition that he deserves. Look for that to change when the teams get back on the field. Realmuto has played quietly for the Marlins and now heads to the Phillies. Last season Realmuto hit at a clip of .275 with 25 homers and 83 RBIs.
Devin Mesoraco is coming into this season playing really well in the past and is one prospect that could really come into his own this year. Now, he did not end up getting any big production in 2019 and that comes from a variety of reasons. Look for Mesoraco can do this year for the Mets as his 2018 stats comes in hitting at only .222 with 10 homers and 30 RBIs.
Yan Gomes is coming into the season playing for the Washington Nationals. Last year Gomes looked really good and definitely could be a player that could really have an impact in the game. Gomes last season only hit at a clip of .223 with 12 homers and 43 runners brought home.
Yasmani Grandal is coming in playing for a team that may have wasted some of his better years in the Chicago White Sox. Last year Grandal did have quite a bit of power on display with 28 homers and brought in 77 runners, but the downside is he only hit at a clip of .246.
Salvador Perez is another player who could have his talent going to waste by playing for the Kansas City Royals. Perez is easily one of the best catchers in the majors and that can really make an impact in the Royals season. Last season Perez only hit at a clip of .235 on the year and ended up hitting a total of 27 homers and 80 runners have been brought home.
