The Detroit Tigers open a three-game series on the road Monday against the New York Yankees. Detroit is 1-2 on the season after losing to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday 3-0 in their most recent outing. The Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning on the right hand but x-rays were negative. Cabrera’s status is unknown of Sunday’s finale against Toronto and Monday’s opener against the Yankees.

New York fell to 1-1 on the season following a 5-3 on Saturday to the Baltimore Orioles. Troy Tulowitzki hit his first home run since 2017 but it was not enough for the Yankees to beat Baltimore, as Miguel Andujar struck out to end the game in the bottom of the ninth. DJ LeMahieu had two hits in the loss for New York in his debut as a Yankee.
Nicholas Castellanos leads the Tigers with a .364 batting average. Christian Stewart is the team leader in home runs with one and in RBIs with two. Detroit is averaging .120 at the plate, while opponents are averaging .165. On Monday, the Tigers will send Tyson Ross to the mound. In 2018 with San Diego and St. Louis Ross was 8-9 with an ERA of 3.45, 122 Ks and 62 BBs.

Aaron Judge leads the Yankees with a .429 batting average. Troy Tulowitzki is tied with two others for the home run lead with 1, while Luke Voit leads the Yankees in RBIs with five. New York is batting .297 while opposing hitters are averaging .243. On Monday, New York will send Domingo German to the mound. In 2018, German was 2-6 with an ERA of 5.57, 102 Ks and 33 BBs.

New York has had a mediocre start in its first series, but the bats will slowly come alive as both Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge have yet to hit a round tripper. German pitched well at times last season for the Yankees fanning 102 batters while walking just 33. The Tigers may be without top hitter Miguel Cabrera after he was hit with a pitch on Saturday. Final Score Prediction, New York Yankees win and cover the run line 6-2.
