The Detroit Tigers (20-25, 2nd AL Central) open a three-game series on the road against American League Central rivals the Minnesota Twins (18-23, 3rd AL Central) on Monday.
The Tigers lost their second straight falling to Seattle 7-2 on Saturday. Detroit was able to muster just three hits of Mariners starter James Paxton who threw a complete game. Victor Martinez managed to hit a home run off Paxton. Miguel Cabrera continues to be sidelined with a hamstring issue for the Tigers.
Through Saturday, the Twins have lost three straight after falling to Milwaukee 5-4. Minnesota put first baseman Joe Mauer on the disabled list with concussion-like symptoms. Miguel Sano remained sidelined but is at his rehab assignment in the minors and could return to play next week for the Twins.
Nicholas Castellanos leads the Tigers with a .309 batting average and team highs in RBIs with 24 and hits with 52. Leonys Martin has the team lead in home runs with five. Detroit has a team batting average of .257 while opposing hitters are averaging .254 at the plate against Tigers pitching. The Tigers have not yet announced a starting pitcher for Monday’s game.
Eddie Rosario leads the Twins with a .294 batting average and team highs in hits with 47, home runs with nine and RBIs with 27. Minnesota has a team batting average of .242 while opposing hitters are averaging .251 at the plate against Twins pitching. On Monday, the Twins will send Jose Berrios to the mound. The right-hander this season is 4-4 with an ERA Of 4.05, 50 Ks and 10 BBs.
