The Detroit Tigers return to Fenway Park on Thursday for the third and final game of their series against the Boston Red Sox.
On Tuesday, Boston opened the series with a 6-0 win. Stephen Wright held Detroit to two hits over seven innings and J.D. Martinez hit his Major League leading 20th home run. Xander Bogaerts added a solo home run during the fifth inning for the Red Sox. Wright moved to 2-0 on the season and was making just his first start of the season after being suspended 15 games to start, spending time on the disabled list for his knee and making six appearances out of the bullpen. Boston has now won three straight and leads the American League East by one game over the New York Yankees.
Nicholas Castellanos leads Detroit with a .336 batting average and team highs in hits with 80 and RBIs with 33. Jeimer Candelario leads the Tigers in home runs with nine. Detroit has a team batting average of .255, while opposing hitters are averaging .251 at the plate against Tigers pitching. On Thursday, the Tigers will send Matthew Boyd to the mound. The left-hander this season is 3-4 with an ERA of 3.24, 48 Ks and 22 BBs.
With Mookie Betts on the disabled list J.D. Martinez leads the team with a .318 batting average, and team highs in home runs with 20, RBIs with 52 and hits with 71. Boston has a team batting average of .267 while opposing hitters are averaging .231 at the plate against Red Sox pitching. On Thursday, the Red Sox will send Jalen Beeks to the mound. The left-hander will be making his Major League Baseball.
