The Detroit Tigers will be at Fenway Park on Wednesday to play the host Boston Red Sox in the second game of their three-game series.
The Tigers played a doubleheader on Monday against the New York Yankees before heading off to Boston. The Tigers lost the first game of their doubleheader 7-4, but returned to beat the Yankees in the nightcap 4-2. Leonys Martin had a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs in the win. The Tigers also got consecutive doubles by Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez during the seventh inning to push their lead up to 4-2.
Boston was off Monday, but won the final two games of its four-game series with Houston after dropping the first two. In Sunday’s series finale, Andrew Benintendi and Mitch Moreland each homered while Rick Porcello was strong on the mound pitching into the seventh inning in Boston’s 9-3 win.
Nicholas Castellanos leads the Tigers with a .333 batting average and team highs in hits with 78 and RBIs with 33. Jeimer Candelario leads the Tigers in home runs with nine. Detroit has a team batting average of .257, while opposing hitters are averaging .250 at the plate against Tigers pitching. On Wednesday, the Tigers will send Blaine Hardy to the mound. The lefthander is 2-0 with an ERA of 2.77, 20 Ks and 8 BBs.
With Mookie Betts on the disabled list the J.D. Martinez leads the team with a .315 batting average, and team highs in home runs with 19, RBIs with 50 and hits with 69. Boston has a team batting average of .266 while opposing hitters are averaging .232 at the plate against Red Sox pitching. On Wednesday, the Red Sox will send Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound. The left-hander on the season is 6-1 with an ERA of 3.88, 72 KS and 20 BBs.
