In Tuesday night MLB action, the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians will open up a series from Progressive Field. On Monday, SS Jordy Mercer homered and scored twice during a 5-2 home victory versus Baltimore. Victor Reyes had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers, who own the worst record in baseball.

Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire has yet to name a starting pitcher for this matchup. The Tigers have very few options on a staff that ranks third worst in the majors with a 5.27 team ERA.

The Cleveland Indians have won six of their last ten games and are currently 1.5 games behind Tampa Bay for the final AL Wild Card spot. On Sunday, C Roberto Perez clubbed a three-run blast to lead Cleveland to a 7-5 home victory versus Minnesota. Oscar Mercado had two hits and scored a run for the Indians, who trail the Twins by five games for the division lead.

Twenty-seven year old righty Adam Plutko (6-4 4.42 ERA) will get the nod for the Indians in the series opener. Through 97 plus innings, Plutko has struck out 66 batters and owns a 1.24 WHIP.

Cleveland 2B Jason Kipnis was scheduled to undergo an MRI on his injured right wrist on Monday and his status is uncertain. Through 149 games, Detroit ranks 29th in OPS and 30th in runs scored.
