Tigers at Blue Jays 3/29/19 - MLB Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 08/07/2019 at 7:40 AM ET

The Friday MLB schedule will get underway with a matchup between the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays from Rogers Centre. On Opening Day, OF Christian Stewart connected on a two-run blast in the tenth inning to lift Detroit to a 2-0 victory. SP Jordan Zimmerman allowed just one hit and struck out four batters across seven scoreless frames.

Twenty-eight year old southpaw Matthew Boyd (9-13 4.39 ERA) will take the mound for the Tigers. Boyd had a 5.89 ERA in 17 road starts and surrendered 19 home runs in 91 plus innings.
The Toronto Blue Jays do not expect to contend in the AL East and are awaiting the arrival of highly touted prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr at some point sooner rather than later this season. On Thursday, Toronto definitely could have used Guerrero Jr. after mustering a two-hit attack. SP Marcus Stroman fanned seven batters and allowed just two hits in seven innings of work.

Thirty-two year old righty Matt Shoemaker (2-2 4.94 ERA) will make his first start as a member of the Blue Jays. Shoemaker, who previously pitched for the Angels, owns a career 1.20 WHIP.

Toronto 3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is dealing with a strained left oblique and expects to join the team when fully healthy. Last season, Detroit ranked 27th in OPS and 26th in runs scored. Toronto counters with an offense that ranked 13th in OPS and 13th in runs scored. Take Detroit to win for the second consecutive day. Final Score Prediction, Detroit Tigers win 5-3.
