In Thursday afternoon MLB action, the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets will wrap up their series from Citi Field. The Cardinals (20-17) have dropped seven of their previous 11 games and trail NL Central Division leading Milwaukee by 3.5 games. Last night, St. Louis 3B Nolan Arenado hit a two-run blast during an 11-4 road loss.

Twenty-seven year old righty Dakota Hudson (3-2 3.06 ERA) will head to the hill for the Cardinals in this contest. Last time out, Hudson tossed five shutout frames during a 4-0 home victory versus San Francisco.

The New York Mets are four games above .500 at home and have built a comfortable six-game lead in the NL East Division race. On Wednesday, New York 1B Pete Alonso capped a five-run eighth inning with a three-run home run. SP Max Scherzer (5-1) limited the Cardinals to two runs (1 ER) over five plus innings to earn the win for the Mets, who improved to 25-14 on the season.

Thirty-three year old righty Chris Bassitt (4-2 2.34 ERA) has been a solid addition to the New York rotation. The Mets have won Bassitt’s last two starts and he has allowed just two runs over his last 11 plus innings.

New York SP Jacob deGrom continues to be sidelined with a shoulder injury and hopes to return after the All-Star Break. Through 37 games, St. Louis ranks 11th in OPS and 11th in runs scored. For the season, New York ranks 12th in OPS and 9th in runs scored. Take the Mets to win at home. Final Score Prediction, New York Mets win 5-2.
