St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers 9/23/21 - MLB Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 09/22/2021 at 11:44 PM ET

NL Central Division rivals will square off on Thursday afternoon, when the St. Louis Cardinals battle the Milwaukee Brewers from American Family Field. The Cardinals (82-69) have reeled off 11 straight victories and hold a 4.5 game lead in the race for the final NL Wild Card spot. Last night, 1B Paul Goldschmidt homered and scored four runs to power St. Louis to a 10-2 road victory against Milwaukee.

Veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright (16-7 2.89 ERA) is showing no signs of slowing down at age forty. The Cardinals have won Wainwright’s last five starts and he has allowed just eight runs total over that stretch.

The Milwaukee Brewers are looking to snap a four-game losing streak and are on the verge of wrapping up the division title. On Wednesday, Milwaukee SP Brett Anderson (4-9) was tagged for six runs and recorded just five outs. OF Avisail Garcia hit his 29th home run of the season in a losing effort for the Brewers (91-61).

Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell will turn to talented righty Adrian Houser (9-6 3.43 ERA) in the series finale. Control has been an issue at times for Houser, who has walked 60 batters through 130 plus innings.

St. Louis SP Jack Flaherty (shoulder) threw to hitters on Tuesday and could contribute by the end of the season. Through 151 games, St. Louis ranks 20th in OPS and 24th in runs scored. For the season, Milwaukee ranks 18th in OPS and 10th in runs scored. Take the under on getaway day. Final Score Prediction, Milwaukee Brewers win 3-2.
