St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies 8/10/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The St. Louis Cardinals will close out a road series at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies. St. Louis has won nine of their last ten games improving to 60-48 on the year, and have taken the lead in the NL Central from the Brewers. The Rockies have lost seven of their last ten games and now trail the Dodgers by 28.5 games at 48-63 this season, leaving them well out of both the divisional and wild card races.

St. Louis has continued their dominance over the NL Central behind a solid offense that scores 4.68 runs per game which ranks seventh in the MLB in scoring offense. Paul Goldschmidt has led the way with a fantastic season batting a league-best .332 with 26 home runs (tied-seventh in MLB) and 84 RBIs (fourth in MLB). Although this team missed on the Juan Soto sweepstakes at the trade deadline, this lineup is plenty good to make a run in the postseason.

The left-handed Jose Quintana will get the start for the Cardinals and hope to continue whats has been a nice bounce-back season. Quintana is 3-5 but has a 3.39 ERA in 109 innings, issuing 96 strikeouts in that time. He’s coming off of a great outing against the Cubs, allowing just one solo home run in six innings of work while striking out seven as the Cardinals beat the Cubs 7-2.

Colorado has the biggest differential between home and away success of any team in the MLB this season. The Rockies lead the lea gue in runs per game when playing at home, scoring 5.60 runs per game at Coors Field, and are 30-27 overall on their home field. CJ Cron has been no different hitting 16 of his 22 home runs and driving in 54 of his 74 runs in the altitude of Colorado.

The left-handed Kyle Freeland will get the start for the Rockies with hopes of continuing his streak of 4 straight starts with a win. Freeland’s last start wasn’t anything special, allowing two runs on six hits in 5 ⅔ innings of work, but he struck out seven and the Rockies went on to beat the Padres 7-3. Freeland is 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA this season, about on par with his career 4.25 ERA.

The Rockies have been solid on their home field but haven’t been able to get anything done away from home. This is tough series against one of the better teams in the national league, but they’re able to close the series off strong and get the win at home. Kyle Freeland has pitched well in his last couple of starts and the Rockies offense gives him plenty of run support on the way to securing a win in the series finale. Final score prediction, Rockies win 7-5.
