The Seattle Mariners conclude a three-game series on the road Sunday versus the Kansas City Royals. Seattle is 82-68 following its 5-1 loss to Kansas City in the opening game of the series on Friday. The Mariners have lost three of the last four. Seattle is second in the American League West, 16 games behind first place and currently holds the third and final spot in the AL wildcard race but leads fourth place Baltimore by only three games.

Seattle will be without Julio Rodriguez (injured list), who has a team-high .280 batting average as well as leads the Mariners in hits with 140 and on-base percentage at .342. Catcher Salvador Perez is the leader in home runs with 22 and MJ Melendez is the leader in on-base percentage .317. On Sunday, the Kansas City Royals will send Zack Greinke to the mound. Seattle has struggled down the stretch, losing six of the last eight, while Kansas City has little to no pressure having been eliminated from playoff contention and has won each of the last four. Seattle will be playing without one of its best hitters Julio Rodriguez, who has an injured back. Seattle starting pitcher Luis Castillo is coming off a poor outing in which the right-hander allowed four runs on six hits across 4 ⅔ innings resulting in a 4-1 loss to Oakland last Tuesday.
