In Sunday afternoon MLB action, the Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians will wrap up their weekend series from Progressive Field. The Mariners (31-35) have dropped three straight games and have fallen eight games off the pace in the AL West Division standings. On Saturday, a throwing error by RP Paul Sewald in the tenth inning allowed Cleveland to defeat Seattle by a 5-4 final score.

Rookie right-hander Logan Gilbert (1-2 4.98 ERA) will make his sixth career major league start for the Mariners. Seattle has won Gilbert’s last three starts and he has allowed five runs over his last 15 innings.

The Clevand Indians have won 16 of their first 28 home games and trail Chicago by 4.5 games for first place in the AL Central Division. During yesterday’s wild walk-off victory, seven Cleveland relievers got the job done after SP Triston McKenzie allowed four walks and recorded just one out. 2B Cesar Hernandez homered and scored a pair of runs for the Indians (34-27).

The Indians will counter with reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber (7-3 2.96 ERA) in the series finale. Cleveland has won Bieber’s last four starts and he has allowed just eight runs (7 ER) across his last 25 plus frames.

Seattle OF Kyle Lewis underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair the meniscus in his right knee. Through 66 games, Seattle ranks 30th in OPS and 22nd in runs scored.
