The Los Angeles Dodgers (92-41) host the San Francisco Giants (64-68) on Sept. 6 for the second game of a 3-game series. Los Angeles leads the season series 10-3 entering play Monday night.
The Dodgers have named Tyler Anderson to start the game on the mound. The lefty is 13-3 with a 2.68 earned run average over 147.2 innings. Anderson has struck out 114 and walked 30. The Giants had yet to announce a starter for the game.
Every series between the clubs has been a sweep this season. The Dodgers swept a four-game series at home in July before taking all four at San Francisco to start August. The Dodgers also won a two-game series at home in May before dropping three June 10-12 at San Francisco. The Giants were 32-26 and in position for a Wild Card spot after that sweep but have gone 31-42 since to fall eight games out of the final playoff spot.
The Dodgers lead the league with 716 runs scored, while the Giants are 15th with 591. The Giants have dropped to 24th with just 154 runs scored since the All-Star break.
Mookie Betts has led Los Angeles in runs, home runs and stolen bases in the second half. Joc Pederson and Evan Longoria have been San Francisco’s best hitters since the break, but neither plays every day. Pederson has hit .317 with an OPS of .928 in 82 at bats over that stretch, while Longoria has a .277 average and .896 OPS in 65 at bats.

It is unlikely to make much difference who San Francisco settles on to start in this game. The Dodgers have been dominant at home, going 47-17, and will negate the impact Pederson has on the Giants’ offense with the lefthanded Anderson starting. Pederson has hit just .233 against lefty pitchers this year. Anderson’s ERA is nearly a run lower at Dodger Stadium. Final Score Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers win 7-2.
