In the second game of a Labor Day MLB doubleheader on ESPN, the San Francisco Giants will visit the Colorado Rockies. The Giants (87-50) are 15 games above .500 on the road and own the best overall record in the majors. Last night, All-Star SS Brandon Crawford had two hits and scored a pair of runs to spark San Francisco to a 6-4 home victory versus Los Angeles.
All-Star righty Kevin Gausman (12-5 2.52 ERA) will take the mound for the Giants in this matchup. Last time out, Gausman gave up two runs in five innings during a 5-2 home loss versus Milwaukee.
The Colorado Rockies have won 45 of their 69 home games and are buried in the NL West Division standings. On Sunday, Colorado managed just two hits during an ugly 9-2 home loss versus Atlanta. SP Ryan Feltner (0-1) was tagged for six runs and recorded just eight outs in a losing effort for the Rockies (63-74).
The Rockies will counter with twenty-eight year old southpaw Kyle Freeland (5-6 4.22 ERA) on Monday. The Rockies have won Freeland’s last six starts and he has allowed 12 runs over his last 30 innings of work.
