San Diego Padres at New York Mets 6/12/21 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The San Diego Padres play the third game of a three-game series in the Big Apple on Saturday against the New York Yankees. San Diego is 37-27 following a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Padres have lost two straight and four of the last five. San Diego has dropped to third in the National League West 2 ½ games behind first place San Francisco. San Diego continues to have an excellent pitching staff as the Padres team ERA is first in baseball at 2.96.

Jake Cronenworth is batting .276 to lead San Diego and the second baseman has a team high 66 hits. Shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. is leading San Diego in home runs with 17 and RBIs with 39, while left fielder Tommy Pham is the leader in on-base percentage at .364. On Saturday, San Diego will send Joe Musgrove to the mound. The right-hander is 4-5 with an ERA of 2.33, 89 Ks and 13 BBs.

New York improved to 30-24 following a 14-1 rout of the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Billy McKinney and Kevin Pillar each hit a pair of home runs. The Mets have suffered through several injuries during the regular season and many in the lineup on Wednesday were not regulars but nonetheless easily defeated the Orioles. Peter Alonso and Mason WIlliams hit home runs as well for the Mets. New York is first in the National League East with a 3 ½-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies.

First baseman Pete Alonso is batting .265 to lead New York and has team highs in home runs with 10, RBIs with 31 and on-base percentage at .349. Infielder Dominic Smith is the leader in hits with 45. The Mets have hit 56 home runs in 54 games played. On Saturday, New York will send Marcus Stroman to the mound. The right-hander is 5-4 with an ERA of 2.41, 59 Ks and 17 BBs.

San Diego is in a rut, as the Padres have lost four of the last five overall and have fallen from first in the National League West to third. New York on the other hand is in first place in the NL East, thanks to very strong pitching as the Mets have the second best team ERA in baseball at 3.15.
