San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers 9/4/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Los Angeles Dodgers (90-41) host the San Diego Padres (74-59) for the final game of a three-game series Sept. 4. The Dodgers had won eight of 11 games against the Padres entering Saturday’s game.

Mike Clevinger is starting for San Diego. He is 5-5 with a 3.59 earned run average in 85.1 innings this season. Clevinger last started against the Dodgers on Aug. 6, allowing five earned runs in 4.2 innings.

Ryan Pepiot is the Los Angeles starter. He is 2-0 with a 4.02 ERA in 31.1 IP this year. Pepiot has not faced the Padres this season. His last outing was against Miami on Aug. 21 when he allowed four hits and two earned runs in six innings. He struck out seven.

The Dodgers lead the league with 697 runs scored, while the Padres are 12th with 592. Mookie Betts has led Los Angeles in runs, home runs and stolen bases since the break.

Los Angeles should have little trouble scoring runs in this one. Dodgers’ hitters have a .381 batting average, .447 on-base percentage and .595 slugging percentage against Clevinger. Betts and Trea Turner are a combined 9-for-16 against the Padres’ hurler. Pepiot can rack up the Ks, but he will need to limit the walks to go deep in the ballgame. We think the Dodgers offense will be the difference. Final Score Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers win 7-3
