An interleague series will get underway on Friday night, when the San Diego Padres visit the Los Angeles Angels. The Padres (68-61) are looking to snap a four-game losing streak and have fallen two games behind Cincinnati in the race for the final NL Wild Card spot. Last night, San Diego was limited to three hits and struck out 11 times during a 4-0 home loss versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Twenty-eight year old righty Joe Musgrove (8-8 3.04 ERA) will take the mound for the Padres in this matchup. Through 139 plus innings, Musgrove has struck out 160 batters and ranks 8th in the league with a 1.02 WHIP.
The Los Angeles Angels are three games above .500 at home and are 9.5 games back in the race for the final AL Wild Card spot. On Thursday, Los Angeles managed just three hits and committed three errors during an ugly 13-1 road loss against Baltimore. All-Star DH Shohei Ohtani hit his major league leading 41st home run of the season in a losing effort for the Angels (63-66).
Los Angeles manager Joe Maddon has yet to name a starting pitcher for Friday. The Angles currently rank 26th in the majors with a 4.77 team ERA and have logged 40 quality starts.
