San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies 8/1/20 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Padres travel on the road to Coors Field to take on the Colorado Rockies in a battle of two of the top teams in the NL West. The Padres and Rockies have both raced to excellent starts to this strange MLB season. The Padres come into this series 5-2 fresh off a dominating 12-7 win over the Giants. The Rockies have won four straight games after falling 1-0 in their season opener and come into this series 4-1.

The Padres will send out tall lefty Joey Lucchesi to start this game; Luchessi’s opening started didn’t go perfectly. He pitched 3.2 innings allowing 5 hits and two runs striking out two and walking one. The Padres strong suit to this point in the season has been their pitching coming in with a team ERA of 3.43 on the year, ranking 9th in the MLB.

The Rockies will send out a tall lefty of their own with Kyle Freeland. Freeland started his season going 6 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on four hits while striking out five. Freeland got credit for the win in his opening game. The Rockies come in with a team ERA of 1.84, tied for first in the MLB.

The Padres are batting .245 as a team on the season ranking 8th in the MLB on the season and are scoring an impressive 6.29 runs per game which rank 2nd in the MLB. The key for the Padres has been patience at the plate drawing 5.3 walks per game as a team, which ranks 3rd in the MLB. The Rockies are no slouch offensively either scoring 4.2 runs per game while batting at a .226 clip which ranks 17th in the MLB.

The Rockies come in red hot after sweeping the talented Athletics in two straight games. Behind one of the best pitching staffs in the MLB to this point in the season, the Rockies have allowed three runs just one time. The Padres, however, have scored under three runs in just one game and come in averaging 6.29 runs per game, which ranks second in the MLB. Despite home field advantage not existing in it’s a traditional sense this year in the MLB, Coors Field will still provide a different environment than most teams are accustomed too. The Rockies being to find their groove at the plate at home and continue their dominant pitching leading to a big division win.
