Chase Field will host game two of three Tuesday night between the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks. San Diego comes into this game 69-62 on the year after a recent skid has haltered their playoff push. The Padres were on the wrong side of a 10-2 rout against the Los Angeles Angels last game out. Ryan Weathers got the start for San Diego giving up three runs on four hits across three innings of work resulting in the loss period the San Diego bullpen struggled throughout the game giving up seven total runs on eight hits.
Offensively San Diego struggled immensely going a combined 7-33 on the day including 2-9 with runners in scoring position to leave 12 men on base. Manny Machado and Austin Nola showed the only sign of life for the San Diego offense driving in one run each.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the worst teams in the league 44 games under .500 with a 44-88 record of the year following a three-game losing streak. Madison Bumgarner got to start last game against Philadelphia giving up five runs on seven hits across five innings of work resulting in the loss. The Arizona bullpen struggled as well giving up two runs on four hits across the final three innings of the game.
Offensively Arizona struggled combining for only 10 hits on the day including 3-8 with runners in scoring position to leave 10 men on base. Nicomede led the way for the Arizona offense going 2-5 on the day to drive in three of the four Arizona runs. Jake McCarthy chipped in to the offense driving in one run.
